| Dementieva takes on Peng |
Elena Dementieva will take on Shuai Peng of China later today on the second round action of the Italian Open. Shuai Peng defeated Dementieva in their only previous meeting in San Diego 7-5 6-4.
Peng is currently ranked 64 in the world ranking but her career-high singles ranking is 31. The 20-year old Chinese moved on to the second round when Lourdes Dominguez Lino retired while Peng was leading 6-3 3-0.
Shuai Peng could be a very tricky match for Elena. Obviously, the last time they met, her game bothered Dementieva. But they're playing on clay this time so I think that Elena has the advantage. And Peng recently hasn't been really playing as well as she did last year. Anyway, it looked like Lena's serve was alright in her last 2 tournaments and her double faults have decreased dramatically so if this continues, Lena can breeze through this round.

Doubles Withdrawal
Elena Dementieva and Flavia Pennetta has withdrawn in the doubles. According to reports, Flavia felt some upper back pains and to make sure that it doesn't get worse, they withdrew. I hope Flavia is okay. And I hope they do well in Roland Garros. |
